Who this policy covers

This policy explains how Telesh Law Firm Professional Corporation collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information, at both of our offices: 1585 Markham Road, Scarborough, ON M1B 2W1 and 2960 Drew Road, Unit 139, Mississauga, ON L4T 0A5.

We are governed by the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and by the Law Society of Ontario's rules on client confidentiality, which in most respects are stricter than the statute.

Information we collect

From clients and prospective clients we collect your name and contact details, the details of your matter, and — where a retainer requires it — identification and financial information.

Through the consultation form on this website we collect exactly six things: your name, phone number, email address, the type of matter, your preferred language, and whatever you write in the message field.

The form carries one further field, hidden from view, which exists only to catch automated spam. A person never sees it and never fills it in. If it arrives filled we treat the submission as spam: it is not sent to the firm, and a copy goes to the developer who maintains this website so that a genuine message caught by mistake can be recovered by hand. Nothing else about your submission is treated differently.

If you book through the scheduling tool on our site, Calendly collects your name, email address, the time you choose, and anything you enter in its own fields, and shares that with us.

Website measurement and advertising

We use Aranova's first-party measurement service to understand how people find and use this website. It records page visits, visible reading time, scroll depth, multi-page sessions, visits to key pages, form starts, successful form submissions, phone-link taps, and selected consultation buttons.

When a consultation form succeeds, the measurement record includes the six fields listed above. Aranova uses that record for the firm's lead notifications and lead dashboard. A submission caught by the spam field does not create a measurement record.

If you arrive through a campaign link, we store its Google or Meta click identifier and UTM campaign details in first-party cookies. The site also keeps a first-party browser identifier so visits in the same session can be connected.

When the measurement service does not accept a record, your browser stores it in local storage and retries until it goes through. A record from a consultation form carries the six fields listed above. Your browser holds up to 200 of these, drops the oldest beyond that, and deletes each one on delivery. Clearing this site's data removes them.

Measurement is on unless you opt out. Use Cookie preferences in the footer to opt out of advertising measurement for 90 days, or to turn it back on. The site applies your choice before an enabled advertising tag can send commands. Opting out does not delete records already waiting in your browser.

The firm may configure Google Ads or Meta measurement tags through Aranova. Those tags load only when configured and remain subject to the choice you make in Cookie preferences.

Tracking in our emails

When you send a consultation request we email you a confirmation, and that email is tracked. Two things happen, both handled by Resend, the company that delivers our email.

A single transparent image, one pixel square, sits in the message. If your mail program loads images, that tells us the message was opened and when, along with the mail program used and an approximate location worked out from your IP address. The location is a rough one, usually no better than the city.

Links in the message point first at a resend.teleshlawfirm.ca address, which forwards you to the real destination straight away. That records which link was clicked.

We use this for one purpose: to know that our reply actually reached you rather than landing in a spam folder, so we can follow up by phone if it did not. We do not use it for advertising, we do not build a profile from it, we do not share it, and it has no bearing on your matter or on any advice we give.

If you would rather not be tracked, set your mail program to block remote images. Many do so by default. The pixel then never loads, we learn nothing, and no part of the message is lost to you.

Embedded content from other companies

Some pages embed panels served by other companies. When one of these loads it receives your IP address and browser details, and may set its own cookies, under that company's privacy policy rather than ours.

Embedded panels load only when you scroll to them, so simply opening a page does not contact these companies.

How we use your information

To respond to your enquiry, run the conflict check we are required to run before acting, provide legal services, and meet our obligations under the law and the Law Society's rules.

We do not use your information for marketing without your consent.

When we disclose it

We never sell personal information. We disclose it only where acting on your instructions requires it — to courts, tribunals, opposing counsel, or agents retained on your matter — to service providers bound by contract, or where the law or the Law Society's rules require disclosure.

Two service providers handle consultation requests. Resend delivers the email, so whatever you write in the form passes through their systems on its way to us. Aranova, who built and maintain this website, receive successful submissions for the lead dashboard and notifications described above. Aranova also receives the recovery alert for a submission caught by the spam field.

Resend is a United States company. Anything you send through the form is therefore processed outside Canada and, while it is there, is subject to United States law — including lawful access by United States authorities. This is the ordinary position for email sent to any Canadian firm, but you are entitled to know it. If you would rather not send the details of your matter across the border, call 416-639-0887 and tell us instead.

SMS / text messaging

If you opt in to receive text messages from us — through our SMS opt-in page, a form on this website, or when booking a consultation — we collect your mobile number and records of our text-message interactions, such as messages and replies, opt-out or help requests, and delivery information. We use SMS only for consultation confirmations, appointment reminders, scheduling changes, and administrative follow-ups. Text messages are not legal advice, and you should not send confidential details of your matter by text.

• Consent records may include your phone number, the consent timestamp, the collection method, the source or form where consent was collected, and the version of the disclosure presented to you.
• We will not share or sell your mobile information with third parties for promotional or marketing purposes. Mobile opt-in and consent data are not shared with any third parties.
• We share mobile information only with the service providers needed to operate our messaging program. Those providers must use it only to provide services to us and are subject to confidentiality and data-protection obligations.
• You can withdraw consent at any time by replying STOP. For help, reply HELP or contact us at tlf@teleshlawfirm.ca.
• Message frequency varies. Standard message and data rates may apply.
• We retain and delete mobile information and consent records under the same practices described in 'How long we keep it'.

How we protect it

We restrict access to client information to those at the firm who need it, store it securely, and bind everyone at the firm to confidentiality obligations that survive the end of a matter.

How long we keep it

Client files are retained for the period the Law Society of Ontario requires, and then destroyed securely. Website enquiries that do not become matters are kept only as long as needed to respond and to maintain our conflict records.

Your rights

Under PIPEDA you may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask for access to it, and ask us to correct it if it is wrong. Write to tlf@teleshlawfirm.ca or call 416-639-0887; we will respond within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. Any change is posted on this page with a new effective date, and the current version always governs.
